The remote work revolution

November 7, 2022 ProgressionHR

With businesses worldwide looking to hire from overseas, we’re heading into a remote work revolution. So how are talent teams getting creative to stand out? Here’s what they’re doing and why you should be too.

Make your brand stand out

When your hires are overseas, they’re not as easily swayed by modern workspaces or well-stocked coffee machines. Instead, it’s your branding that’s going to catch their eye.

TIP: Think about where candidates may see your employer brand. On your careers page, social channels or via recruitment agencies. Ask yourself, are you putting your best foot forward? Is your branding consistent, engaging and attractive to potential candidates?

Think value fit, not cultural

As your candidate isn’t on the ground, you need to think outside the box. You can’t hire based on a cultural fit like you would locally. So how do you figure if they’ll fit?

TIP: Instead of thinking culturally, you need to think about whether they’re a ‘values fit’ instead. This means they align with the values of your company rather than whether their personality matches the current team. If they seem to line up, then it’s a win.

Promote your flexibility

Your new hire might live in a different time zone and be used to working flexible hours. So how will you show how your company will adapt to their working hours?

TIP: Recently companies have started to rethink the rigid 9-5 working week and embrace a trusting flexible schedule. If you’re believers in ‘as long as the work’s done, we don’t mind how or when you do it’ then promote it – and not just for overseas workers.

Upgrade your tech

With remote-working, the tools your employees use need to be seamless – no matter the location. So, is the tech you’re using right now the best for online collaboration?

TIP: The right technology can help remote workers to feel included and represented in meetings. Remember, collaboration technology should be able to turn any space into a workspace. So if yours lags or you’re having issues, research and upgrade before you hire.

So take note if you’re looking to employ your next hire from overseas. Firstly, think about how you’re promoting your company to someone you can only grab a virtual coffee with. And then make sure that their experience runs smoothly. Good luck.
