How to add human magic to your robot-written cover letter

June 29, 2023 ProgressionHR

These days it’s easy to pop some criteria into ChatGPT and get a cover letter spat out in seconds, but there’s always a few tell-tale signs it’s missing the magic human touch. So we asked ChatGPT for tips on how to add more ‘human’ into a robot-written cover letter. And if yours doesn’t have these – we’d suggest an edit or two.

Add personal touches

Forget blanket statements that could apply to any company. Tailor your letter to the role and the company you’re applying for. Robots lack a personal touch, and it shows.

Show off your realness

No-one sells your skills better than you. So remember to share real-life examples that showcase your capabilities and are true to what you’re like to work with.

Leave the buzzwords out

Robots love jargon, but humans have the upper hand at being authentic. Keep clear of excessive industry buzzwords – they may sound impressive, but they lack substance.

Think formatting

Remember in class when we had to work on writing structure? This the same. Craft clear paragraphs with logical transitions between ideas. A robot could never be as natural.

Inject your personality and passion

Robots envy your genuine human connection. So share what makes you tick and why you’re perfect for the role. Show your passion and be you, that’s all we ask.
