Whether you’ve had your eye on the job market for a few months, or perhaps have just decided it might be time for a change, it’s a good idea to make sure you have sharpened your job hunt tools.
So, we thought we’d help you out with these 5 key things to consider for your 2025 job search:
- If you’re using AI to write your cover letter or CV, make sure you have a close read over to ensure it sounds authentic and reflects your voice. These documents need to showcase who you are and speak to the reader. To be honest, when we receive documents that are quite obviously AI generated, that person can be at risk of being overlooked.
- Take the time to research and include key words in your CV and LinkedIn profile that bots will be searching for, so you don’t get bypassed. Perhaps you might also consider a new year (this is an oldie, but a goodie) declutter of your CV and LinkedIn profile.
- Make sure you’re clear about your points of difference and what you can offer that others can’t. Write them down, practice talking about them. We promise, this will make a huge difference when you get a chance to speak about them at an interview. Use our HR job search template to get clear in your mind about how your ideal next role looks.
- We’re finding that many first interviews are still happening online. A key piece of advice – prepare for an online interview like you’d prepare for an in person meeting. Research the company. Read the annual report if that’s available. And this includes your wardrobe choice – err on the side of formality. We’d suggest that a hoodie isn’t going to make the greatest first impression.
- And finally, take every interaction as an opportunity to build your network and make a great impression. It’s still really competitive out there in the candidate landscape – and Auckland is a small market – so ghosting is definitely out and great manners are definitely in!
Good luck! Here’s to thriving in 2025!
